What’s better than a summer getaway to the cottage?
An organized cottage experience can build lasting memories for you and your loved ones. Whether you're looking for a low-key vacation to chill out and relax, or a more active trip with boating and other outdoor activities, you can make the most of your long-awaited escape with these seven helpful tips!
-
Make a list in advance of what to bring (including a basic first aid kit). If you’re renting, get clarity from the owners about what is and what isn’t provided. You may be expected to bring everything including sheets, towels and toilet paper.
-
Meal Plan! If you’re a guest, ask how you can contribute. Ask well in advance so that you can have time to prepare your part. If you’re part of a group, coordinate by choosings days or meals to be responsible for. If it’s just your family, think of yummy things that will keep everyone full and happy, without keeping you in the kitchen all day. Talk to your partner and see if they’re willing to take on some of the meals to give you a break too.
-
If you’re worried about car space, try using one larger suitcase with everyone’s stuff in it, instead of several smaller ones. Alternatively, use soft duffle bags or backpacks that can be squished under seats or at kids' feet. Try fitting all the empty luggage and gear in the car before you actually pack it, instead of finding out the hard way that the cooler won’t fit.
-
Time car rides strategically. Depending on your kids' age, try to time car rides to line up with nap time. Or, get your kids hyped up enough that they talk the whole time about how much fun they’re going to have -- instead of complaining about the long car ride.
-
Unpack your bags even if you’re just there for two nights. This will ensure all your clean clothes stay clean and dry, and that you can find things easily.
-
Have a Laundry Strategy. Bring a pillow case for everyone’s laundry and toss it in the wash as soon as you get home. Better yet, if your cottage has a washing machine, use it before you go home.
-
Plan ahead for Monday morning. Whether you are going away for a weekend or a week, make sure you have enough food in the fridge to last you through the first day back. You don't want to start your week off feeling behind!
Make the most of your long-awaited weekend away with these helpful organization tips so you can enjoy each and every moment!
